Sore Neck? Try These Neck Stretches

Did you know the average adult head weighs 10-11 pounds? That's a lot of weight to be carrying around on such a slender neck. Add in your sports and activities, a few bad nights of sleep, and 5 days in a row of work at the computer, no wonder it gets painful sometimes!

The big question is, what are you going to do about it?

You could ignore your neck pain, and go on with your daily activities hoping it doesn't get worse. You could do what a lot of people do and use pain relievers to mask your neck pain, even though the problem will still exist. Or you could do the best thing for yourself and loosen the tension in your neck by stretching! Watch Amanda's video below to learn how.

You will be sure to capture the painful points in your neck if you practice movement in all three planes of motion like Amanda shows us. These stretches include the neck tilt, the side to side tilt, and the side rotation. Stretching increases blood flow and releases endorphins. Many times this is all we need to feel relief.

A couple things to remember:

  • Stretching needs to be slow and controlled

  • Hold each stretch for 15-30 seconds for maximum benefits

  • Keep an eye on your shoulders, ensuring they stay in a neutral position

  • Don't forget to breathe.
